How To Set Up a PC Server

Setting up a PC server using web server software allows other PCs to download documents from the server. They are not that difficult to configure at home, and can offer the user the ability to download files from their home computer remotely.

There are some security risks involved in running a server on your home PC, so you should be sure that you have the latest security patches and updates before proceeding. You'll need a Windows PC and a DSL or cable broadband connection that's always on. The first step is to install Apache HTTP server after disabling any other server or firewall software that may be running. If these programs are not disabled first, the server installation is sure to fail. You can download the Apache server online and use the "typical installation" option on the install wizard.
